Hi guys,
I want to introduce myself as Venture's new intern. As a journo major on work assignment for a 200-hour internship, I'm handling some of the outgoing online and print communications for Venture. I do other stuff I'll mention later.
I first heard of Venture as a sophomore at North Central University. That was when four crazy students decided to ride across the United States to raise money for AIDS relief in Africa. It was a cause everyone readily rallied around, and it's still going to…

I wanted to add a quick blog post and trip summary....
TEAM
Our cycling team consisted of Jimmy, Stephanie, Kelly & Kris.
TRIP
We started riding pretty soon after I landed in Dublin...June 23 (I was a day late b/c I missed my flight to London due to bad weather in Nashville). We rode 20 miles the first day to just outside of Bray, Ireland. We camped out in some people's yard and were tired after putting our bikes together and getting a bit of a late start. We got rained on off and on all a…

Hey Folks,
It has been a little while since I have had a chance to post so here is the recap leading up to this moment. Bear with me since occurances will likely be mashed up into one lump...
Our group was able to visit the IEC Oprhanage for a second time. It was tough for us to have to leave them. They were very sweet kids and we bonded so well with them. We were also able to go to Cradle of love for a second time as well which was a treat. Funny thing, while we were there Ryan and I were wa…

Friends,
Today is Saturday and here is the recap of the week;
Sunday: Our team joined with the people here at IEC (International Evangelism Center) in Sakila, Tanzania for church and relaxed for the day.
Monday: We went to the IEC Orphanage to visit with the children. The orphans were between the ages of 4 and 8, and many of them are orphaned due to AIDS.
Tuesday: We went to WAMATU which is an AIDS awareness/support system near Arusha. There we were able to see some of the programs that are…

ok, don't expect any capitalization, or correct grammer, or anything correct in this post because i am at an internet cafe in the middle of arusha tanzania and the connection is awfuly slow. not to mention that there is only four minutes until my session times out.
so, today we visited the orphanage and it was wonderful! the kids were very excited to see us. we brought them some rice, flour, fruit, candy, and footballs (soccer balls).
tommorrow we will be heading to an aids center near arusha,…

Hello everyone! Or maybe I should say Jambo rafiki!
I hope that you all are doing well. Our team arrived in Sakila, Tanzania yesterday and we are getting some well deserved rest.
We had quite a time traveling from all over the US. Minneapolis, Seattle, Austin, and New York City is where we all came from, and luckily we only lost one bag in transit. Somehow we were able to get it literally as we were entering the park gate to start our climb.
The climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro was a success with all…

Friends and Family,
Our team’s departure is fast approaching. To be very honest up until this point I have not had a lot of time to think about the trip, but the time has come and the bags must be packed. Those of us who are located in the MPLS region will be departing today at 3:15pm and will touch down in Nairobi around 7:00pm on Friday. From there we will spend a night at the Nairobi International Youth Hostel and leave early the next morning for Kilimanjaro. On the 15th we will start our cl…

Props to three guys who are kayaking the Mississippi from St. Paul to New Orleans!
Melody and I met with these intrepid voyagers and talked about details and motivations for what they are doing. They too are raising funds for an organization. They plan to raise $20,000 for International Justice Mission, an organization that is working to end slavery (specifically in the sex trade). These guys were fun to talk to and have big goals for the next two months.
If you have a minute, check out their…

hello everyone! from east to west i hope that this message finds you all doing well.
our team is set to depart in just under one month (june 12th), and everyone is taking care of all last minute details (shots, boots, backpacks, etc.). i am trying not to get too excited for i fear that i will forget to finish strong that which i am doing now. believe me when i say that if i could be doing anything right now it would have nothing to do with work and everything to do with travelling.

Well I am looking forward to the Ireland trip, I believe God is going to work in powerful ways in our lives! I am always blessed to be a part of a venture trip. Each experience has shaped me even more into the women I want to be, I have learned a ton about myself, but most of all I have learned how much I need the Lord. Please pray for me that I will be able to get all the money I need in for this trip and that God will bless this team and project rescue in a powerful way!
Blessings

Lately any article about the Mississippi catches my eye. Even driving or biking over a bridge gives me mixed feelings of excitement and anticipation. Today, the river's force appeared evident down by St. Anthony Falls. The south wind blew strong, making the raging current seem even faster.
I'm thinking about that current as I read this article from the Star Tribune: http://www.startribune.com/local/stpaul/18747819.html
It mentions that yet
another body was found in the river yesterday. H…

On Saturday, I laid out all the DNR maps and plotted our route. For a few sections I was also able to use Lynn Diebel's Canoeing Northern/Southern Minnesota books. I found her book extremely helpful on the Rum River trip. She details hazards to watch out for and interesting sights that may not be immediately noticed.
When I charted our route, I stayed conservative, planning the longest days at about 40 miles. We will cross a few large lakes, the biggest being Lake Winnibigoshish, which is the t…
