Profile Information

About Me:
Born in St. Paul, and raised in Hugo, MN. I have lived in Minneapolis now for almost five years, and I love it. I attended the Kilimanjaro Trek last summer, and despite vowing never to climb it again, here I am. Both climbing the mountain and being with the people of East Africa was the most rewarding experience of my life, and I look forward to having a second go at it.
Birthday:
April 11, 1985
Why I'm involved in Venture Expeditions:
We live in a great big world that comes with much grandeur as well as big problems. I believe that it is up to us as people to do our best to find a remedy. Venture provides a fantastic method for growing as an individual and handling world issues at the same time.

...and now in Jinja, Uganda...

Hey Folks,

It has been a little while since I have had a chance to post so here is the recap leading up to this moment. Bear with me since occurances will likely be mashed up into one lump...

Our group was able to visit the IEC Oprhanage for a second time. It was tough for us to have to leave them. They were very sweet kids and we bonded so well with them. We were also able to go to Cradle of love for a second time as well which was a treat. Funny thing, while we were there Ryan and I were wa… Continue

...on our way out of town...

Friends,

Today is Saturday and here is the recap of the week;

Sunday: Our team joined with the people here at IEC (International Evangelism Center) in Sakila, Tanzania for church and relaxed for the day.

Monday: We went to the IEC Orphanage to visit with the children. The orphans were between the ages of 4 and 8, and many of them are orphaned due to AIDS.

Tuesday: We went to WAMATU which is an AIDS awareness/support system near Arusha. There we were able to see some of the programs that are… Continue

...in arusha today...

ok, don't expect any capitalization, or correct grammer, or anything correct in this post because i am at an internet cafe in the middle of arusha tanzania and the connection is awfuly slow. not to mention that there is only four minutes until my session times out.

so, today we visited the orphanage and it was wonderful! the kids were very excited to see us. we brought them some rice, flour, fruit, candy, and footballs (soccer balls).

tommorrow we will be heading to an aids center near arusha,… Continue

...in Sakila now...

Hello everyone! Or maybe I should say Jambo rafiki!

I hope that you all are doing well. Our team arrived in Sakila, Tanzania yesterday and we are getting some well deserved rest.

We had quite a time traveling from all over the US. Minneapolis, Seattle, Austin, and New York City is where we all came from, and luckily we only lost one bag in transit. Somehow we were able to get it literally as we were entering the park gate to start our climb.

The climb on Mt. Kilimanjaro was a success with all… Continue

...and we're off.

Friends and Family,

Our team’s departure is fast approaching. To be very honest up until this point I have not had a lot of time to think about the trip, but the time has come and the bags must be packed. Those of us who are located in the MPLS region will be departing today at 3:15pm and will touch down in Nairobi around 7:00pm on Friday. From there we will spend a night at the Nairobi International Youth Hostel and leave early the next morning for Kilimanjaro. On the 15th we will start our cl… Continue

Planning for the finances is in full swing. Planning for the trip is less important right now. But I just got back from an overnight canoe trip up by Lake Mille Lacs. What a crazy time ... when we were driving up, it was pretty much white out conditions! I've never canoed through a snowstorm before, but I'll have to say, It was quite beautiful. Peaceful even. The trees blocked most of the wind and all of us dressed for a winter camping trip, which helped. ... but on the second day, we flipped the canoe on some rapids ... it all adds to the excitement.

hey bro, I am currently talking to Papa Sam Soita on Skype, and He sends his greetings. I'm hoping that when you go to Uganda this summer, that I can send some things for you to give to them. you should call him and let him know about your plans to go and visit them.
